David R. Courson

CREDENTIALS: MSN, RN, CEN, CNML, CLNC

David is an accomplished clinician and nurse leader. He is currently an Administrator on Duty (AOD) at UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. A dedicated emergency nurse, he also serves as a staff nurse in the emergency department of Excela Health System in Greensburg, PA. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he practices as a legal nurse consultant in matters related to clinical care in the emergency setting, as well as hospital administrative procedures. He believes the foundation of solid nursing leadership in either a director or consultant capacity commences with unsurpassable clinical competence.

During his 25-year nursing career, he has enjoyed staff and leadership roles in the emergency department and critical-care environments, including director-level positions in critical care and emergency services. In these roles, he developed and facilitated a vast array of seminars and workshops specific to emergency nursing and nursing leadership. According to participants and colleagues, he has a unique way of simplifying complex concepts to promote retention. David has also been described as being visionary, energetic, engaging, humorous and practical.
