Julie Lester

CREDENTIALS: BSN, RN, CEN, CPEN

Julie brings with her a wealth of nursing experience, including clinical roles in adult and pediatric emergency departments, trauma programs and flight nursing across the country. In addition, she has held positions as emergency department clinical educator and emergency and trauma program manager in critical access and at Level l, II and Ill facilities. Julie is a long-time active member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), having past positions as secretary and vice president of a local chapter. She has contributed as a both an author and editor to the Journal of Emergency Nursing (JEN). She has been a frequent speaker at many national and state ENA conferences and CEN review courses. She further contributes to ENA by teaching TNCC, ENPC and the Course in Advanced Trauma Nursing-11 (CATN-11). Additionally, she has been an ACLS and PALS instructor.

Currently, Julie is a regional emergency department educator over four emergency departments at University of Colorado Health. She oversees a large staff of nurses and EMTs with responsibility for education, competency and onboarding, as well as serving as the coordinator of a new graduate residency program. She is known for her creative use of high-fidelity simulation, interesting case reviews and ability to utilize reflective learning in her teaching style. Over the past 20 years, she has successfully facilitated over 200 new emergency department graduates through prestigious residency programs at Baylor Scott & White, Hawaii Pacific Health and University of Colorado Health systems.

Her awards include: being named as one of the Great 100 Nurses of Dallas, TX, in 2009, being named manager of the year for Hawaii Pacific Health in 2011 and Magnet Nurse nominee for Education and Innovation 2015. Julie's passion is in staff development, and she enjoys interacting and teaching in the clinical setting and in the classroom. Her knowledge is easily shared through her many years of her varied cumulative experiences.
