Carol Harvey

CREDENTIALS: MSN, RN, ONC

Carol has over 35 years of experience in orthopedic and medical-surgical nursing and has worked at the University of California Irvine as the orthopedic/medical-surgical clinical nurse specialist and as a clinical educator. She has also taught in the orthopedic residency program for the department of surgery. Her areas of expertise include total joint replacement, trauma /fracture management, spinal surgery and orthopedic complications as well as many general medical-surgical patient care concepts. She has maintained this expertise as a professor of registered nursing at Cypress College, working with students as well as continuing to teach orthopedic courses around the country. Students and nurses describe her teaching style as interactive, engaging and relaxed.

Carol is active in the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) at both the national and local levels and most recently was the editor of the third edition of the NAON Scope and Standards of Orthopaedic Nursing Practice. She has published numerous articles in the orthopedic nursing literature and has received several awards for her teaching, writing and leadership. Carol has been certified in orthopedic nursing as an ONC® since the certification was first established in 1988 and has been a presenter numerous times at the annual NAON Congress and annual meetings of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
